  3. I believe experiences with budgeting, cost reduction and economic development is what is needed to be an efficient mayor. Could you tell me one idea that you have in reducing the cities budget?

  4. The first thought that comes to mind, is assuring that the items to be funded are "necessary" as opposed to "nice to have" . Next we want to assure, that any Capital expense ( large) items have an estimated cost of ongoing expense figured in. For instance, any time you build a new City park, you need to know what the expense of maintaining that park is to include lawn maintenance , security ,and parking lot surfacing.

  5. I notice that Palm Coast has neatly manicured landscaping all around town. Palm Coast Pkwy has a well maintained median with flowers and palm trees. Belle Terre Pkwy is well maintained on a daily basis. I could not help but notice that an independant landscaping company takes care of these areas I mentioned. What does it cost the city to maintain these areas? Just curious...

  6. Good question. Generally, the City puts some of the landscaping maintenance contracts out to bid, and goes with the lowest price. We even use inmates from the Flagler County jail at times, in an attempt to keep costs down. I'm not so sure, I like the inmates doing maintenance in the area of our public schools. While I don't have the cost of these services, the bidding process is an attempt to find a local business, that can perform the services, at a cost below, the City doing the same service.

  7. Mr. Ericksen,

What do you estimate the cost to the tax payer for a number of failed and or misguided city projects, some of which too ambitious, in my opinion, considering the present economic environment. specifically, desalinization, re alignment of Old Kings Rd., plans for a new city hall etc.

    Thank you

  8. Anomyous.. Yes, the list of projects that have been initially funded, and not fully completed continues. City Hall ($500,000) Desalination ($2,000,000) South Old Kings (approx $10 million), and the property along Bulldog Drive, near the High School, where the city has purchased over $4 million in property to rebuild the road into City Center ( they want a curved road) ..They even turned down an employer on the corner of SR 100/Bulldog, as not worthy of being at the entrance ( It was a fast food place). But they paid the business $1.15 million to leave( public records are available).. The City seems not accountable for their spending of our tax money..
